Hammer & Steel, a St. Louis-based company that rents and sells pile driving and drilling equipment for large-scale construction projects, was looking for a redesign of their old site. While pleasantly designed, I felt the company's previous site relied too heavily on the wrong color scheme, primarily red that had been grayed down to a mauve or old rose shade, and was completely wrong for their industry.
To give Hammer & Steel a more appropriate look, I drew on the blue shade and strong horizontals of its existing logo design. A dark blue with steely lighter shades, combined with a few rich red accents in the header and footer area and contrasted against a white interior, created the bold, strong appearance I felt was necessary for Hammer & Steel's face on the web. A flash animation on the home page with simple fades and tabbed links to internal pages highlights the company's line of equipment.
